What should I do in a car rental incident?

General guidelines if you find yourself in a car rental incident.

If you are in a road accident, please contact your care hire company and follow their instructions. Be sure to keep all documentation, such as reports and receipts, as these will be necessary when you file a claim for excess charges or deposits.

Which rental cars are eligible for coverage?

If you have a short-term rental agreement with insurance included, the insurance will cover the potential excess you might need to pay in case of damage.

What does this coverage include?

  • Material damage to the rental vehicle (i.e. accidents, fire, vandalism, or theft, including damage to the vehicle's tyres or glass).

  • Administration fees charged by the rental company to process the costs of damage are covered.

  • Replacement of lost, stolen, or damaged car hire keys:

  • Costs related to accidentally putting the wrong type of fuel in the vehicle are covered.

  • Loss of revenue to the rental company

  • Personal belongings left in the car, If your personal items are damaged or stolen from a locked boot, luggage area, or glove box during the rental period.

Special conditions and exclusions:

No cover will apply to any driver who:

  • Does not hold a valid driving licence

  • Is under 21 years of age:

  • Violates the rental agreement:

  • Is not named in the rental agreement

What should I do if the rental vehicle is damaged or the keys are lost?

If the rental vehicle is damaged or you lose the keys, immediately contact the car hire company and follow their instructions. Be sure to keep all documentation, such as reports and receipts, as these will be necessary when you file a claim.
